1 person dead after agent-involved shooting in Belton, FBI says. Investigation underway

A person was killed in a shooting involving an FBI agent in Belton Tuesday, and an investigation is underway, according to the agency.

The identity of the person who died has not yet been released.

In a statement Tuesday night, the FBI said it was investigating the agent-involved shooting, which occurred Tuesday afternoon in the 100 block of Wilbur Parrish Circle.

The person who was shot was taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead, according to Bridget Patton, a spokeswoman with the FBI’s Kansas City office.

No other civilians or law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

No further details have been released, including why agents responded to the area and what led up to the shooting.

“The FBI takes any shooting incident involving our agents seriously,” the agency said in a statement. “In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident will be investigated by the FBI’s Inspection Division. The review process is thorough and objective, and is conducted as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances.”

The incident marks the second fatal shooting this year in the Kansas City area involving the FBI. In February, an agent shot and killed a 35-year-old man as a task force was serving an arrest warrant at the Alcazar apartment building in Kansas City. The FBI did not describe the details of the arrest warrant or how the shooting occurred in that case.
