Man found dead inside Kansas City apartment after caller reports body to police

A 42-year-old man was found dead inside a south Kansas City apartment early Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers responded about 4:45 a.m. to the apartment in the 14500 block of U.S. 71 highway after someone called police and said there was a dead body inside one of the units at Cloverleaf Apartments, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Police identified the victim as Barron Shelton. Officers found Shelton dead inside one of the units. His death could have occurred before Tuesday.

The caller, police said, was not at the apartment complex.

Investigators were collecting evidence and information from the scene.

This was the 33rd homicide recorded in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star.
