Raytown woman struck by a driver charged with DWI dies. Police chase was involved

A driver who was struck by a man now charged with driving under the influence has died, the Kansas City Police Department said.

Rebecca L. White, 38, of Raytown, was hit Feb. 19 as Miguel Ayala allegedly fled from police.

Ayala was charged the next day with driving under the influence and resisting arrest.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday any new information related to the case will be reviewed.

The incident began in the 5100 block of Hedges where a woman said a man she knew attempted to hit her with his vehicle and rammed several parked cars.

Officers spotted the suspect and attempted to stop him.

The suspect refused to pull over and a chase began. At one point during the pursuit, police said speeds reached 100 mph.

At 47th and Raytown Road, the suspect slammed into a BMW which was stopped at a red light, police said.

The suspect’s vehicle knocked down two poles. The BMW was pushed through the intersection and ended up partially on the other side of the street.

White was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. A 3-year-old passenger was transported in serious condition.

The suspect also had serious injuries.
