Photos show people suspected in cable outage before Chiefs AFC Championship
About 90 minutes before one of Kansas City Chiefs’ biggest games this season, Spectrum fiber optic lines were damaged, causing a horribly timed outage for fans in the Northland.
Police now want to know who did it.
A reward for information relating to the damaged cable lines has been increased to $5,000, the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline announced Wednesday.
The damage occurred about 12:50 p.m. Jan. 19, the day the Chiefs played the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game. It was a big game for fans who had waited 50 years to see the Chiefs make it back to the Super Bowl.
The damage occurred near the intersection of Northwest Englewood Road and Northwest Waukomis Drive, cutting service to some in the area.
The Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers released surveillance photos of two persons of interest who were seen emerging from a wooded area and approaching the fiber optic lines. They stood behind a tractor-trailer. Kansas City police hope someone recognizes them.
One person was wearing a white shirt, green jacket or vest, blue jeans, a dark backpack and a light or white-colored hat that might have been a hardhat. The other person was wearing a white shirt, brown pants and a dark backpack, according to the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted electronically at www.kccrimestoppers.com or by downloading the P3TIPS mobile app.
