Armed person barricaded in QuikTrip in Harrisonville taken into custody: police

An armed person who was barricaded inside a QuikTrip in Harrisonville, Missouri, was taken into custody Sunday night, police said.

Officers responded to the QuikTrip convenience store near Route 291 and North Commercial Street, the Harrisonville Police Department said on Twitter about 6:40 p.m.

Within the hour, officers took the person into custody, police said. The person has not been identified publicly.

The department had asked the public to avoid the area around a gas station as officers responded to the incident. Customers and workers were safely removed from the store, police said.

Officers secured the parking lot and asked the public Sunday night to stay away as they cleared the scene.

The QuikTrip is located about 35 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City.
