Woman’s body found in bag on roadside in Buchanan County, Missouri
A woman’s body was found inside a large bag in a ditch Tuesday in rural Buchanan County, according to the area’s sheriff.
A Missouri Department of Transportation worker found the bag shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday on Vincent Road, between Southwest State Highway V and Route 371, near Faucett, according to the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office. Faucett is about 50 miles north of Kansas City.
The worker thought the bag looked suspicious and called the sheriff’s office, Sheriff Bill Puett said Wednesday.
Deputies found a woman dead inside. The discovery launched a suspicious death investigation.
The sheriff called the incident a “heinous crime.”
Investigators responded to the scene and the body was removed for a forensic autopsy, Puett said. Detectives have been following leads and looking through missing persons cases, he said.
The woman had not been identified as of Wednesday afternoon. Initially, the sheriff’s office believed the woman was in her 40s or 50s, but that could change when the autopsy is completed, Puett said.
