Deputy, suspect injured in chase that hit 100 mph in Cass County: sheriff’s office
A sheriff’s deputy and a 23-year-old driver were injured Sunday morning during a pursuit that hit more than 100 mph in Cass County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The chase began about 4 a.m. when a deputy tried to pull over a speeding vehicle, which was heading south of Peculiar on Interstate 49, and the driver accelerated, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The driver, identified as Quasheena Cadenhead of Kansas City, continued through Harrisonville as additional deputies joined the chase, according to Capt. Kevin Tieman with the sheriff’s office.
Cadenhead’s vehicle exited the interstate at Highway 7 and headed north into the fueling area of a Love’s Truck Stop, Tieman said. The vehicle then went down an embankment and onto an interstate exit ramp north of South Commercial Street, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver headed the wrong way and drove north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 49, exiting the wrong way on a ramp, authorities said. The vehicle began to reverse before a deputy struck it to prevent it from moving, Tieman said.
Cadenhead and a deputy were taken to a hospital. The deputy was treated and released.
On Monday, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said Cadenhead was released from a hospital and was in custody at the county jail.
Cadenhead was charged with resisting arrest by fleeing and was held on a $7,500 cash bond.
