Kansas City man killed in crash during police pursuit in Cass County

A 23-year-old man being pursued by police was killed in a crash earlier this week in Cass County, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The incident happened about 3:16 p.m. Thursday on Peculiar Drive, south of Peculiar Way.

Bracken M. Hubbard, of Kansas City, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer, which was being pursued by Peculiar police, according to the highway patrol’s online crash report. Police were not immediately available Saturday to comment on what prompted the chase.

The Explorer was traveling north on Peculiar Drive, “fleeing at a high rate of speed,” the highway patrol said. At some point, the driver braked hard, which caused the vehicle to skid off the road, hit a power pole and overturn.

Hubbard was taken to Belton Regional Medical Center, where he was confirmed dead. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, the highway patrol noted.

The crash was being investigated by the highway patrol.
