Woman charged in Kansas City, Kansas, hit-and-run crash that injured 7th-grader

A 28-year-old woman has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash that left a Turner Middle School student injured earlier this week in Kansas City, Kansas, according to court records filed in Wyandotte County District Court.

The driver, identified as Whitney Lynn Purvis, is also charged with driving while suspended, a misdemeanor.

The crash was reported after 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Kansas City, Kansas, police were called to the 5500 block of Osage Avenue in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian.

Police said in a statement that a vehicle traveling south on 55th Street struck a 13-year-old who was trying to cross the road. A Turner School District spokesman said the child, who is in seventh grade, was walking home from school at the time of the incident.

The teen was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled but was later arrested, police said. The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office filed charges this week.

Purvis remained in the county jail Wednesday.

An attorney for Purvis has not yet been listed in public records.
