Suspicious package in KC’s Crossroads area was briefcase; no explosive device found

A suspicious package found in Kansas City’s Crossroads Art District area turned out to be a briefcase and was determined to be safe after being examined by the bomb and arson unit, Kansas City police said Thursday.

Police found no evidence that the package, which was found near 20th and Oak streets, contained an explosive device, police said.

Oak Street had been closed for more than two hours while they investigated. People were also told to avoid the area.

Police reopened Oak shortly before 11 a.m. after it was determined to be safe.
