Driver ran away after car crash that left man dead in Kansas City, police say

A driver involved in a crash that left a passenger dead Sunday in Kansas City fled the scene before officers arrived, according to police.

Shortly before 4 a.m., the Kansas City Police Department was called to 18th Street and College Ave.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Nissan Sentra heading west lost control. The vehicle left the road and struck a wooden utility pole.

The woman who was driving ran away, police said.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 57-year-old man, was transported to a hospital where he died.
