Police arrest woman in Olathe stabbing case, charge her with 2nd-degree murder

Police have arrested a 38-year-old woman accused of stabbing a relative in an Olathe home.

Sgt. Joel Yeldell, spokesman for the Olathe Police Department, said Mollie Fitzgerald was arrested on Tuesday. She is accused of killing 68-year-old Patricia E. Fitzgerald, of Texas.

Yeldell did not respond to questions about the relationship between the suspect and victim.

Johnson County Court records show the 38-year-old was charged with second degree murder on Dec. 23. The Johnson County District Attorney’s office would not provide any details on the case.

On Dec. 20, officers responded to an armed disturbance in the 10200 block of South Shadow Circle in Olathe. Patricia Fitzgerald was pronounced dead at the scene.

An online obituary said Patricia Fitzgerald’s primary residence was in suburban Houston, though she maintained a home in Olathe as well.

Officers said at the time that a 38-year-old female was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
