Woman injured in shooting involving Grain Valley police officers Friday afternoon

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting involving Grain Valley police that left a woman injured Friday afternoon.

The incident started in Grain Valley around 2 p.m.

According to Sgt. Andy Bell, a highway patrol spokesman, Grain Valley police officers received multiple calls in regard to a report of an aggravated assault at Main and Jefferson streets.

The woman, Bell said Saturday, allegedly physically assaulted someone and drove her car into another vehicle.

As police were responding to the scene, a person suspected in the alleged assault was seen leaving, Bell said.

A witness provided to police a description of the suspect and where they were headed.

Police saw the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle kept going, Bell said.

The officers pursued the vehicle as it traveled out of the city and south on State Route BB, also known as Buckner-Tarsney Road.

The chase ended in the driveway of a residence at a small lakeside community located in an unincorporated area of Jackson County.

After stopping the car near a relative’s home in the 1400 block of Green Forest Way, Bell said, a woman allegedly exited the vehicle with a handgun. He said shots were fired.

Because the investigation was ongoing, Bell said, he could not specify who fired the shots.

The woman was injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital. The extent of her injuries were unknown Friday night. Her identity has not been released.

A 2-year-old child was found in the vehicle, Bell said.

No police officers were injured.

The Grain Valley Police Department referred all questions to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The state agency’s Division of Drug and Crime Control was handling the investigation, which continued Friday night.

“There are several of our investigators here combing through every piece of evidence, talking to the officers who were involved and any other witnesses,” Bell said.
