Kansas City police investigate homicide after man is found dead in the street

Kansas City police say a homicide investigation is underway after a man was found dead in the street late Saturday afternoon at 38th and Monroe Avenue.

Police were working to determine how the victim died but called the death suspicious.

According to a news release from police, officers were called to the intersection just before 4:30 p.m. A 911 caller stated a person was seen lying in the street.

Officers found the male victim and called emergency medical personnel. The victim was soon pronounced dead at the scene. Police were working to identify him on Saturday night.

No other information has been released.

Police said detectives would be working with crime scene investigators to find out the cause of death and what led to him being at that location.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-8477. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

The death marks the 139th homicide reported in the city this year, according to data maintained by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
