Death of 2-month-old baby in Kansas City ruled a homicide months later

The death of a 2-month-old infant brought to a hospital earlier this summer in Kansas City has been ruled a homicide, according to police.

The child, identified by police as Jamarion S. Holland, was being treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital on Aug. 23, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Few details have been released about what led to the child’s death. According to Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a police spokesman, officers responded to the hospital just before 4:30 p.m. Aug. 24 to investigate a report of an assault.

The hospital had indicated there was evidence of an assault after an examination, Becchina said. Police have not said what kind of injuries the child sustained. An obituary posted for Jamarion indicates the baby died Aug. 25.

The medical examiner’s office ruled Nov. 12 that the cause of death was child abuse, according to Becchina. The medical examiner labeled the death a homicide.

Becchina said a person of interest has been identified. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
