Police responding to reports of a shooting found a person dead inside an Independence home late Wednesday. Officers warned neighbors that persons involved in the shooting might still be in the immediate neighborhood.

Independence police have released the name of a 36-year-old man killed Feb. 21 in a shooting at a house in the 2500 block of South Sterling Avenue.

Michael E. Lopez of Independence was found inside the home after officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault and shooting. Police detained several people at the scene.

Police have released no other details. The investigation continued.
