A 31-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man is facing attempted murder and other charges after prosecutors say he tried to shoot two people at Oak Park Mall.

The shooting happened on the night of Oct. 26 outside the doors to the mall’s food court, Overland Park police had told The Star. Police were looking for a suspect and victims at the time, and had released surveillance images of three subjects of interest days following the incident.

According to court records filed in Johnson County District Court, Melgene C. Martin was charged earlier this month with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm at a structure and two counts of aggravated endangering a child.

He was arrested Friday afternoon and booked into the Johnson County Detention Center, jail records indicated.

Martin’s bond was set at $500,000.

A court date has not been scheduled.
