Kansas City woman was victim in weekend murder-suicide in western Shawnee

Shawnee police on Tuesday identified a 27-year-old Kansas City woman who was shot and killed by a male friend in an apparent murder-suicide over the weekend in western Shawnee.

The woman was identified as Courtney Bivins, according to the Shawnee Police Department.

Bivins was shot by Joshua P. Mobley, 34, of Mission, who then shot and killed himself, police said. The two were not in a domestic relationship with one another, police said, but were thought to be close friends.

Police found their bodies shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday in the 5500 block of Frisbie Road, near Shawnee Riverfront Park.

Officers had gone to the area to check on an endangered person after receiving information from the Kansas City Police Department.
