KC teen charged as adult in fatal shooting of 15-year-old skateboarder
A Kansas City teenager has been charged as an adult in the April killing of another teenager.
Xavier I. Jones, 16, is charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Jesus Reyes.
Reyes, a well-known skateboarder in Kansas City, was found fatally shot on April 16 inside a car in the middle of the intersection at Truman Road and Hardesty Avenue. A second person was critically injured.
Jones was initially charged as a juvenile, but the case was moved to Jackson County Circuit Court on Friday, according to court records.
In addition to the murder charge, Jones is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and three counts of armed criminal action.
According to court documents, Reyes and the other shooting victim had met Jones and another suspect to buy a gun. They were shot after handing money over to the suspects, according to the documents.
Bond for Jones is set at $500,000.
The second suspect, 17-year-old Andrew Rodriquez, was previously charged.
