Overland Park murder case ends with ‘Hard 50’ sentence for man who killed stepfather
A man who fatally shot his stepfather in Overland Park last year has been sentenced to life in prison.
Phillip Stanley, 33, will have to serve 50 years of the sentence before he can seek parole.
A Johnson County District Court jury in August found Stanley guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Henry Gates Jr.
Gates, 62, was shot to death on July 19, 2017, inside his home in the 9200 block of Nieman Road.
Stanley is appealing the conviction.
