Two men were killed Tuesday in a double shooting near Van Brunt Boulevard and 31st Street in Kansas City, according to police.
Kansas City police responded to the shooting about 3:45 p.m.
The victims were identified by police as 18-year-old Tyler Johnson and 26-year-old Kenton Branch. Both lived in Kansas City.
Johnson was found dead in the parking lot of a BP gas station, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman.
The other man, Branch, tried to drive away but crashed into another vehicle one block south of the gas station. Police said he ran a short distance after the wreck. Branch was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds but was later pronounced dead.
Police detained another person on unrelated charges.
Becchina said police were not looking for additional suspects Tuesday afternoon.
The deaths Tuesday marked the 98th and 99th homicides of the year in the city, according to police.
“Although this scene was contained right here, this is obviously a very busy scene at a very busy time, so we’re hoping that maybe more people may have seen what happened,” Becchina said.
