School resource officer in KC area charged with lewd fondling of 3 teens, police say

A school resource officer for Kansas City, Kan., schools has been charged with three felony counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Michael Eugene English Sr. was charged Thursday in Wyandotte County. He is accused of lewd fondling or touching three victims, all of whom are older than 14 but younger than 16, charging documents stated.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 172 months in prison.

English was a security guard with the school system before joining the Kansas City, Kan., School District's independent police unit in 2015.

A parent tip received March 21 by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department set off the investigation, District Attorney Mark Dupree said at a press conference Thursday.

English is on paid administrative leave as of Thursday afternoon, Dupree added.

The alleged crimes occurred during various periods beginning in January.

English was not in custody as of Thursday afternoon, Dupree said, but the district attorney added that he expected English to turn himself in.

It's possible additional alleged victims will step forward, Dupree said.

"If there are those who know anything about this case or found themselves in similar positions, please call the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department," he added.

Dupree said whether the alleged crimes occurred in a school setting is under investigation. He declined to answer a question about which schools in the district English worked in.

Dupree did say that several search warrants executed last month at three schools in the district were related to this investigation.

English's bond was set at $100,000.
