A Kansas City man was convicted of murder and armed criminal action in the 2015 shooting death of 27-year-old Nicole Appleberry.

According to Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, a jury found Dewayne Cornelius, 37, guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in Appleberry’s death.

Police found Appleberry dead May 25, 2015. She had been shot in the back inside a house she shared with Cornelius in the 3200 block of East 28th Street.

Prosecutors accused Cornelius in July of 2015 of shooting Appleberry during a domestic dispute, after demanding sex from her and another woman in the house.

Cornelius was later arrested and charged with murder and armed criminal action.
