The last of three defendants in the 2015 killing of a 14-year-old girl at a Kansas City water park has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Ce-Antonyo D. Kennedy, 19, had been convicted of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Alexis Kane. He was sentenced Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court.
Alexis, who attended Smith-Hale Middle School, was beaten and shot to death Jan. 11, 2015, at the water park in the 7100 block of Longview Road.
After Kennedy was convicted at trial in April, a jury recommended sentences of 15 years and 10 years, respectively, on the two charges. Prosecutors asked that the sentences be set to run consecutively, but the judge set them to run concurrently, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
