Lawrence man charged with attempted murder, child abuse sent to Douglas County jail
A Lawrence man accused of attempted murder in the abandonment case of his 9-month-old stepdaughter has been transferred to Douglas County jail to face criminal charges.
Marquis Young, 27, was transferred Thursday afternoon from Johnson County jail to Douglas County jail to face charges of attempted first-degree murder and child abuse. He is also accused of violating his probation.
Young was serving a 90-day sentence in Johnson County jail after he was convicted of domestic battery in July.
Police said Young was the stepfather of the 9-month-old girl who was found abandoned the morning of July 7 at an apartment complex in the 2500 block of West Sixth Street in Lawrence.
The baby spent almost two weeks in the hospital before she was released into state custody.
Young is currently being held on a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is 2 p.m. Oct. 27.
