Independence woman found guilty in husband’s 2014 murder
An Independence woman has been found guilty of first-degree murder in her husband’s death.
A Jackson County jury late Wednesday convicted Kirstin Stephens in the March 2014 murder in Independence of her 65-year-old husband, Charles Stephens.
The jury found Stephens, 51, guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Court records show that police were dispatched to the Stephens’ residence March 7, 2014, on a suspicious medical call and found Charles Stephens dead in his bedroom with several gunshot wounds.
Police later searched the home and found a rifle under a Jacuzzi-style tub. The rifle had evidence of Kristin Stephens’ DNA.
Stephens faces life in prison without parole. Sentencing will be Nov. 18.
