Police are asking for the public’s help after a person was bitten by a dog in an Overland Park neighborhood Wednesday night.

A person was walking their own dog around 10 p.m. near W. 79th Street and Grant Lane when another dog off-leash approached them, according to a news release.

The off-leash dog displayed aggressive behavior and bit the person, police said.

After the incident, the dog fled the area in an unknown direction.

Overland Park’s Animal Control Unit is looking for the dog after the victim gave a description. The dog that bit them was described as medium-sized and husky-like. It was brown with white spots and had a fluffy tail, according to the victim.

The victim’s injuries are still being assessed. The police department is asking for help to verify whether the dog has been vaccinated against rabies, a police spokesman said.

“This information is critical for the victim’s medical treatment and to ensure public safety,” the police department said in a news release.

Police urges anyone with information about the dog or its owner to contact the department at 913-895-6420.
