Four Johnson County parks are featured in WPA-style posters. Here’s how to get them
Four parks in Johnson County are being commemorated with posters in the classic “WPA-style” of art used by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s and memorably employed in posters celebrating the national parks of the U.S.
After a call for artists as part of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s JCPRD Poster Project the spring, the results were put on display earlier this month and are available for purchase now.
The featured parks include:
Big Bull Creek Park in Edgerton, with art by Tad Carpenter
Cedar Niles Park in Olathe, with art by Daniel Bartle
Lexington Lake Park in De Soto, with art by Luke Wittman
- Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, with art by Michael Perry
The parks department said on its website that the goals for the project are to celebrate and raise awareness for the parks, trails and facilities that are part of their system.
The project also provides opportunities to showcase Kansas City-area artists and raise money to support the public art program.
You can buy posters, postcards and note cards on Parks and Green Spaces’ website.
Prices range from $12 for a set of four postcards or note cards, $35 for a 9-inch by 12-inch poster, $60 for an 18-inch by 24-inch poster and $250 for a 25-inch by 32-inch stretched canvas.
