The city of Prairie Village, along with the YMCA and the Johnson County Library, is exploring the idea of building a new community center in Harmon Park that would include a relocated Corinth Library branch. The YMCA would oversee programming.

On Jan. 27, the City Council will hold a special meeting to see results of a survey designed to gauge community support for the idea, what amenities should be included and how much the center might cost. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave.

The Paul Henson YMCA, at 79th and Delmar streets just south of Harmon Park, is operating in a dilapidated building constructed decades ago. The Corinth library, at 8100 Mission Road, also needs extensive updating. Prairie Village has a small community center near City Hall, but the new one would be far more comprehensive.
