Wind and storms loom in KC, but Chiefs fans might catch a break
Thunderstorms are likely to roll into the Kansas City area on Thursday and Friday, but Chiefs fans might be spared during Thursday night’s clash with the Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium.
The first round of precipitation is approaching from the west Thursday morning, and the wind is picking up. There’s a 30 percent chance for showers and storms through 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. A south wind of 15 to 20 mph could linger into game time. Thursday’s high will be in the upper 80s.
A bigger round of storms is likely to hit late Thursday night and continue through Friday. Strong storms could bring heavy rain and wind gusts overnight. The wind is forecast to shift to the north after midnight, bringing pleasant conditions for the weekend, with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s starting Friday.
Some parts of the Kansas City area could see as much as 2 1/2 inches of rain from Thursday through Saturday.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is encouraging fans to leave early for the home opener because of road construction around the stadium.
