A man who pumped more than 20 bullets into his victim, even after he was down on the ground, was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole.
Jackson County Circuit Judge J. Dale Youngs also sentenced Timothy T. McClendon, 37, of Kansas City, to a consecutive sentence of 30 years for armed criminal action.
McClendon killed Jose O. Jenkins in September 2011 at a car wash at 4325 Prospect Ave. Surveillance video showed Jenkins on the ground after an initial exchange of gunfire. McClendon reloaded his gun, drove to where Jenkins lay and shot him multiple times. He then backed up and fired more shots before driving away.
McClendon had previously been charged with killing two women but the case was dropped after key witnesses could not be found to testify.
