“Thanks to the diligence of a tons of technicians, each pop star's image will beamed across the country onto the other's stage resulting in a performance of two previously unheard duets,” he writes.
“It's an intriguing idea. At least it won't be even half as creepy or shocking as the holographic voodoo that brought Tupac back to life at Coachella in 2012, or the black magic that resurrected ODB at Rock the Bells 2012.”
The magic show comes courtesy of Audi, celebrating the release of its new A3 sedan.
Monae, who today released her cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes,” will perform in New York; M.I.A. is in Los Angeles. They’ll play separate sets before their holograms appear to sing near the end of the night.
“Essentially, the two will be participating in a full-body Skype,” writes Barnes.
Some people can’t wait to hear the music. Others are hoping for glitches.
Writes Dan Reilly atSpin
: “With both artists doing this live, we're kind of rooting for one to accidentally to walk through the other's ‘body,’ just to see if some Ghostbusters stuff happens.”
