KC-area toddler drowned in river without life jacket, Missouri patrol says
A Kansas City, Kansas, toddler drowned in southwestern Missouri over the weekend, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on the Elk River in Noel, Missouri, at the beach of the Two Sons Campground, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol drowning report.
Located near the Arkansas border, Noel is a three hour drive south of Kansas City.
On Saturday evening, the 3-year-old girl went into the water without a life vest, the highway patrol reported. The Kansas City, Kansas, resident “was unable to swim,” according to the report.
The child was pronounced dead on the scene around 7:30 a.m. Sunday by David Goens, McDonald County deputy coroner.
Goens declined to provide additional information about the drowning, saying the case was still under investigation pending the autopsy.
The Missouri Highway Patrol and McDonald County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for details on the drowning.
