Married couple killed in Blue Springs crash; 1 arrested, released

Blue Springs police said a husband and wife died following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 40 last week.
Police identified the two people as Kody Ballard, 26, and Aubree Ballard, 26, of Blue Springs.
Lt. Keegan Hughes, a spokesperson for the Blue Springs Police Department, said in an email Monday that the driver of the other involved vehicle was arrested and was released “pending further investigation.” No charges had been filed as of Monday, he said.
Officers were called to a two-vehicle crash at Southwest 19th Street and U.S. 40 at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday. The driver who was arrested had minor injuries, police said.
Two people, the Ballards, were in the second vehicle. The driver was declared dead after they were brought to a hospital, and the passenger later died from their injuries, police said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss,” the Blue Springs Police Department said in a social media post.
Hughes did not respond to a message seeking more information about the circumstances of the crash.
