Driver in KC-area hit-and-run is located and is cooperating, police say

Independence police said Thursday they had located a suspect in a hit-and-run that left a person with “possibly life-threatening injuries” when they were struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter.

The driver was cooperating with authorities, according to an updated news release shared by Sgt. Steven Boles, Independence Police Department spokesperson.

About 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect was allegedly driving near the intersection of 23rd Street and Woodbury Drive when they hit a man riding a motorized scooter.

The suspect left the scene without anyone stopping to help the victim or report the crash, according to police.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where, as of about 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, he remained with “possible life-threatening injuries,” Boles said.
