Two rescued from roof after fire breaks out at Kansas City house
Firefighters rescued two people from the roof of a two-story home after it caught fire early Tuesday in Kansas City’s Palestine West and Oak Park Northeast neighborhood, a fire department spokesman said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 6:20 a.m. in the 3300 block of Bales Avenue, said Battalion Chief Riley Nolan of the Kansas City Fire Department.
The first crews on the scene reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the house, as well as two people stranded on the roof, Nolan said. Fire crews quickly deployed ladders and were able to get both people down safely.
Firefighters began an offensive fire attack using two hose lines, extinguishing the fire and placing it under control at around 6:40 a.m., Nolan said. Fire crews searched the home and found no one else inside.
The fire department has requested inspectors from Kansas City’s planning department and dangerous buildings division to respond to the scene.
The Kansas City Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
