Construction is causing traffic delays at this Olathe intersection. What to know
Construction on 135th Street at South Brougham Drive in Olathe is underway.
And residents may see some traffic delays in the area.
Olathe City Council member LeEtta Felter provided an update on the construction in a Facebook post
“Thanks to combined County and City funding, this project includes replacing several aging corrugated metal storm pipes with reinforced concrete pipe — an important long-term infrastructure investment designed to improve drainage, safety, and reliability along the corridor,” Felter said in her post.
Felter said that because of the size and depth of the project, residents should anticipate closures in several phases.
West of the construction zone, 135th Street becomes West Santa Fe Street as it heads toward downtown Olathe.
She said that the eastbound right-turn lane west of Brougham Drive was closed because of work being done beneath the roadway. She said that this was closure one and that once that was complete, the city would move into a second closure.
Closure two began on June 2, with Brougham Drive remaining closed from South 135th Street near the entrances to the AutoZone and the dentist’s office both located in the area. Felter said residents can expect this closure to last about two to three weeks.
Residents will see detour signs on how to bypass this closure.
Eastbound traffic on Santa Fe, north of Brougham Drive, will be detoured as part of closure three. This closure will last about a week.
Felter also said that part of this project is replacing the traffic signals at both Brougham Drive and Black Bob Road. She said these replacements will be made overnight in July and will take one to two nights. This project will also require temporary lane closures south of 135th Street.
Felter said she will continue to update the community on her Facebook page as the construction continues.
