Kansas City house fire displaces adult and child, injures three firefighters
Three firefighters were injured while battling a blaze at a home in Kansas City Monday night, according to a fire department spokesman.
Crews responded just before 5:30 p.m. to the 3800 block of North Briarcliff Road. Upon arrival, they saw smoke and fire coming from a single-story home in the area, said Michael Hopkins, a Kansas City Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters entered the home and used handheld hoses to diminish the flames. Searches inside the home came back clear, and no one was found inside, Hopkins said.
Just before 6 p.m. the unit commander instructed crews to evacuate the home and start defensive operations, or attacking the flames from outside.
Hopkins said the blaze was extinguished around 6:08 p.m. One adult and one child were displaced by the fire.
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries while putting out the blaze, Hopkins said.
Kansas City’s dangerous buildings and planning departments were called on to evaluate the home.
After the KCFD started the investigation, the Kansas City Police Department’s Bomb and Arson unit took over, Hopkins said.
The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
