Olathe City Council to discuss town home proposal, Santa Fe project Tuesday
The Olathe City Council was scheduled to meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers of Olathe City Hall, 100 E. Santa Fe Street.
You can watch a livestream of the meeting on the city’s online meeting portal when it is live, or later when it is archived on the city’s website. Agendas can be found online ahead of the meetings.
This week’s meeting will include five public hearings on the construction of commercial and industrial facilities, a proposal to rezone a plot of land to build new town homes and removing a project area from a local a tax increment financing (TIF) district.
The council will also honor a longtime municipal judge and an Olathe Historic Preservation Board member, who are both retiring.
Members of the public can sign up to make comments during the meeting by calling the City Clerk’s Office at 913-971-8521 or emailing CCO@OlatheKS.gov by 4:30 PM. In person sign-ups are available until 6:30 p.m.
Meeting agenda items for June 2
Among other items on the agenda, council members will discuss:
- As part of the council’s consent agenda, it will consider an agreement with HNTB Corporation to finalize designs of the Santa Fe Improvement project.
- An ordinance updating the North Ridgeview Road Overlay District, which eliminates conflicting requirements with the city’s Comprehensive Plan. The update will “support... redevelopment opportunities within and near existing commercial centers,” the agenda says.
- A rezoning request for a plot of land northeast of W. 119th St and S. Lone Elm Road for new town homes to be built in the area. The rezoning request first came to the council after the planning commission unanimously recommended in December 2025 that the council deny the request. It was sent back to staff for further review.
- Ordinance recognizing that an area within Olathe’s Tax Increment Financing District, for Bass Pro Shops, is ending after 20 years. Bonds have been fully repaid for Area 1 within the district, approximately 21 acres at the southeast corner of 119th Street and Renner Boulevard.
The meeting also includes an executive session where the council will meet with the city attorney for matters not immediately available for public record.
