Child hit by falling tree along Line Creek Trail in KC’s Northland dies
A child who was hit by a falling tree along the Line Creek Trail in Kansas City’s Northland last week has died, police said.
Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email Monday that the youth was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon after he was removed from life support. She said police were investigating the death but didn’t answer questions about the circumstances of the incident along the trail Wednesday.
The child was struck along the Line Creek Trail, near Hopewell Elementary School and the intersection of Northwest 68th Street and Northwest Waukomis Drive Wednesday morning, the Kansas City Fire Department said last week. The child was hit by a falling tree and was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital in critical condition, the department said.
Asked about the incident, Toni Zibert, a spokesperson for Kansas City Parks and Recreation, said in an email to The Star that parks officials were waiting for a full police report from the Kansas City Police Department and referred a reporter to police.
“We don’t have any comment otherwise,” she said.
