A child suffered critical injuries after they were hit by a falling tree in Kansas City’s Northland Wednesday morning, according to department officials.

In a news release Wednesday morning, Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins, a spokesman for the Kansas City Fire Department, said first responders were called to the area of Northwest 68th Street and Northwest Waukomis Drive around 10:15 a.m. and found a child had been hit by a tree that had fallen.

The child was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital in critical condition, Hopkins said.
