A pedestrian was critically injured Friday after a two-car collision struck them on Kansas City’s East Side, police say.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of 31st Street and Wabash Avenue, one block west of Prospect Avenue, according to a police report.

As a person was crossing Wabash, a black Mercedes GT 53 attempted to pull out of a private driveway onto 31st Street, police said.

The Mercedes failed to yield and crashed into a Red Acura TL that was driving on 31st Street, officials wrote.

The impact of the collision caused the Mercedes to rotate. The car’s rear hit the pedestrian, throwing them to the ground, according to police.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and about five hours later was in “serious, but stable condition.” The Kansas City Police Department did not immediately respond to an email about the condition of the victim on Monday.

No other injuries were reported. Police are investigating the incident.
