A local family is dealing with the death of their 17-year-old son, less than three years after losing another child.

In a GoFundMe account, the family of Kevin Gomez said the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department found the teen unconscious Saturday around 11 a.m. in a wooded area in the 300 block of Stewart Avenue. His cause of death is still under investigation.

Kevin was the youngest of seven siblings, the fundraiser post states. A KCK police spokesperson said additional information will be released pending the results of an autopsy and further investigation.

“He was very unconditionally loved by all of us and will be very missed,” the GoFundMe post written by Kevin’s father, Juan Gomez, said. “Our family is completely devastated by his sudden passing and unfortunate circumstances.”

The family, which is raising funds for Kevin’s funeral service, lost another son, Alex Gomez in November 2023.

According to media reports three years ago, Alex Gomez, 21, died in a single-vehicle crash in early November 2023. Alex was driving south on U.S. 69 when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and hit the right barrier wall over Metropolitan Avenue, reports said.

“The sudden and tragic loss left an overwhelming financial burden on my family that we are still having to navigate after 3 years,” the fundraiser said. “Therefore my family and I are reaching out to the community, family, & friends in the hopes of being able to raise enough money to give Kevin Gomez a beautiful and dignified funeral.

“... My family and I still have the burden of going to funeral homes and comparing prices, but once I have an itemized receipt, I will do my diligent duty to share that receipt with you guys as well.”
