Fatal KC shooting sparked by remark about gunman’s girlfriend, witnesses say
Prosecutors charged Dustin Clock, a Missouri man, in a fatal Kansas City shooting that occurred last month after the victim reportedly said Clock’s girlfriend was “sexy” and winked at her, according to court documents.
Bobby Nimmo, 48, was killed in the April 24 shooting near the intersection of Independence and Monroeavenues.
Clock was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in Jackson County Circuit Court on Monday. Kansas City police said in court documents that Clock was arrested on Friday. He declined to speak to investigators and was booked into jail in Ray County on arrest warrants there, they said.
Prosecutors said Clock’s bond was set at $150,000.
Police in northeast Kansas City were initially flagged down by a witness who reported that a man had been shot around 9 p.m. April 24. Nimmo was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A witness told police he had been with Nimmo all day April 24 and was with him as he made a remark to a woman who was walking by them, according to court documents. The witness said the woman took offense to the comment and returned later with Clock, who allegedly demanded an apology, pulled a revolver and shot Nimmo.
Police identified the woman and Clock, and spoke to the woman last week. She told detectives that Clock had been her boyfriend for three years and that the two had been homeless. Just before the shooting, she had been walking near the camp they were staying in when the shooting victim called out to her that she was “sexy,” according to court documents.
She took offense and told Clock what happened, and Clock confronted the victim, she reported. The victim apologized and then winked at her and whispered something just before Clock pulled out a .22-caliber revolver and shot the other man, she said, according to court documents.
She and Clock ran off, and after she told Clock she didn’t want to be on the run with him, he threatened to kill her, took her phone and removed its SIM card, she said. She was eventually able to get away and call for help, she said.
