Speeding can be costly in Kansas, and a recent Kansas Highway Patrol Facebook post shows just how high the fine can climb.

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper recently stopped a motorcyclist in Franklin County traveling 168 mph in a 75 mph zone, netting a fine of $1,140, plus a docket fee of $108, according to a photo posted on the agency’s social media account Tuesday afternoon.

The photo shows the violation appears to have occurred on northbound Interstate 35 near Ottawa. The trooper used radar to capture the speed. Other information was redacted.

“Speeds like that put everyone on the road at risk,” the highway patrol said in the post. “Remember, no matter where you’re headed, it’s more important to get there safely than on time.”

By noon Wednesday, the post had garnered 459 reactions, including 194 comments and 79 shares.

A few commenters wondered how the person got caught and how fast the trooper had to go to catch up.
