Cool now, warmer next: When does rain return to KC — and how warm will it get?
The last sprinkles move out of the Kansas City area on Wednesday morning, but cool, cloudy skies will linger. Warmer days are ahead, with spotty showers and thunderstorms possible to start the weekend, the National Weather Service says.
Clouds may thin on throughout the day, letting some sun through.
“Despite the efforts of the filtered sunshine, temperatures will remain quite cool for this time of year,” the weather service said.
Temperatures should reach about 60 degrees, well below the early May average of 72 degrees. A warmup begins on Thursday, although temperatures will remain below average at 68 degrees.
A series of weather disturbances might bring periodic showers and thunderstorms through the weekend.
The first arrives Friday afternoon and evening, but limited moisture should keep storms scattered and mild. Another round is possible Saturday night as a cold front moves through, the weather service said. Severe weather is not expected, although winds could get breezy behind the front.
Temperatures are expected to be around 75 on Friday and 83 on Saturday.
It will be slightly cooler on Sunday, with high temperatures of 72 degrees. But a substantial warming is expected next week, with temperatures reaching near 90 degrees on Tuesday. Chances for scattered thunderstorms also continue into next week.
