Police have identified an individual found dead in a car, near a townhome subdivision in Kansas City’s Northland on Wednesday, as a man who was reported missing from the Kansas City area in March.

Investigators with the Kansas City Police Department were called to the area of Northeast 38th Street and North Ewing Avenue, near the Bennington Park Townhomes, just before 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, department spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina said in a news release Friday.

Officers responded to the area, which lies just north of the Missouri River, after receiving a report about a Jeep parked in a treeline north of the intersection, Becchina said. They found 42-year-old Jonathan Brooks dead in the car.

Becchina said the man was found in a “deep state of decomposition.”

Brooks was last seen driving a gold 2003 Jeep Liberty near Gardner Avenue and Northeast Chouteau Trafficway, just south of the Missouri River, on March 26, Becchina said in an April 13 news release. Loved ones last heard from him the same day.
