One man is dead after a stabbing in downtown Kansas City Sunday morning.

Police were called around 9 a.m. to the area of 11th Street and Grand Boulevard on a reported cutting. There, they found a man suffering from an apparent stab wound, according to Sgt. Philip DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

Live-saving measures were performed on the scene, but the man died shortly after arriving to the hospital with critical injuries.

Preliminary information indicates that an altercation between two people led to the man getting stabbed, according to DiMartino. Crime scene investigators and detectives canvassed the area for witnesses, physical evidence and surveillance footage.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide, according to DiMartino. A person of interest was taken into custody pending further investigation.
