Travis Kelce and Derek Green, who will star in now two highly anticipated weddings in Chiefs Kingdom, have set a high bar for future grooms. Both helped design custom engagement rings for their beloveds.
Gracie Hunt tells People magazine that her new fiance, the son of former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green, helped create the elongated, cushion-cut diamond sparkler he slipped onto her finger when he proposed in Mexico on Friday.
When Kelce proposed to Taylor Swift in his Leawood backyard last August, he gave her a brilliant-cut old mine diamond set in yellow gold that he helped design. The ring made its red carpet debut recently when the couple attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
Hunt said the ring Green created with Dallas jeweler Lyles DeGrazier is full of symbolism.
“Derek included two green emeralds, one on either side of the center stone as a subtle nod to his last name, Green, which I think is such a thoughtful and personal touch,” she told People.
“What makes it even more sentimental is that he had one of my favorite Bible verses engraved inside the band — a constant reminder of the foundation of faith our relationship is built on.”
Hunt said Scott Polk, the master jeweler who helped create her ring, also worked on her mother’s ring.
Kelce worked with New York City goldsmith Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to design Swift’s ring. It showcases a diamond with rounded corners bezel-set in yellow gold with engraving on the side of the band, according to Vogue.
Swift had admired Lubeck’s work, she said on a British radio show in October.
“I just thought her stuff was so cool, so I had shown him a video a year and a half ago ... And he was paying attention to everything it turns out ... when I saw the ring I was like, ‘I know who made that!’” she said.
“He listens to me! Like, you really know me. I didn’t know what I would want, but he did somehow, and that’s kind of a flex. He did amazing!”
Like Kelce and Swift, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium was a launch pad for Hunt and Green, who met at the stadium more than eight years ago. Hunt’s future father-in-law was with the Chiefs for six seasons (2001-07).
The two went public with their romantic relationship in May 2025, foreshadowing a merger of two NFL families.
Hunt said she was “completely surprised” when Green proposed during what she presumed to be a vacation for both families over Easter.
“We were at a point in the relationship where I knew engagement was in our future, but I didn’t know when he would do it,” she told People.
She thought he had gone to play putt-putt with her dad, his dad and brother on Friday.
“An hour later, I was on the back of a golf cart heading to what I thought was a family dinner, when it came to a sudden stop,” she said. “I turned around and saw the most breathtaking proposal setup, with Derek standing at the end. I was speechless — it truly didn’t feel real.”
