Frodo takes KC: Elijah Wood DJ’s, visits coffeehouse during Planet Comicon weekend
Elijah Wood left “The Lord of the Rings” fans happy — and with lots of photos for their social media accounts — while in town for Planet Comicon Kansas City over the weekend.
On Saturday night, Wood, who played the Hobbit Frodo Baggins in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, took his Wooden Wisdom vinyl DJ project to the Madrid Theatre where he and DJ Zach Cowie played ‘70s and ‘80s disco and the classics for a theater full of costumed partiers.
Just four days before his Kansas City appearance, Wood was in Paris promoting his new movie, “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come,” when he and co-stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kathryn Newton were evacuated with other guests when a kitchen fire broke out in their hotel.
On Saturday morning he surprised customers at Mildred’s in the Crossroads when he popped in for breakfast and took time to pose with fans.
And what does a Hobbit eat?
Steamed eggs, bacon, American Swiss cheese and pepper-dijon mayo on rye.
How precious.
“None other than Elijah Wood popped into our crossroads location Saturday morning ordering a Standard on rye and an Americano casually making our entire weekend!” Mildred’s posted on its Instagram.
“Met him yesterday at ComicCon and isn’t he the kindest?! ... Hobbits gotta have their refreshments,” commented one person.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first movie in the Peter Jackson trilogy released in the United States in December 2001.
Where did the time fly?
Wood, who hails from the Middle-earth of Iowa, and his “Lord of the Rings” co-star Sean Astin, who played fellow Hobbit Samwise “Sam” Gamgee, shared stories about the movie in front of a standing room only fellowship at Comicon.
One particular story about an ill-timed passing of gas during filming made the crowd laugh.
Wood also joked that in a city full of fountains he had yet to see a “single fountain.”
We trust that he did by the end of the weekend.
